All roads will tomorrow lead to the Windhoek Country Club Resort & Casino for the much-anticipated Project Never Walk Alone (PNWA) Boxing Initiative, which will see musical legend King Tee Dee taking on PNWA founder Tim Ekandjo in the main bout of the evening.
The event, which aims to raise funds to buy shoes for vulnerable and barefooted school children, will also see five national title bouts taking place, where the country’s top boxing prospects will be battling it out for supremacy and also contributing to a good course.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Ekandjo said it has been tough journey training for three months, but said it’s worth it as they will be contesting for a good cause.
“It has been a tough journey, training for three months and catching flue in the last week of training, but I won’t use that as an excuse, I am excited and ready to take to the ring. It’s going to be exciting as we are doing this for a good cause,” he said.
Besides the mega bout between King Tee Dee and Ekandjo, budding boxer Festus Semeon will also be in action as he squares off against Erastus Jonas for the flyweight national title over 10 rounds, while Martin Mukungu and Immanuel Jason will rumble for the featherweight national title, also over 10 rounds.
Thrilling action is expected between Sakaria Amutja and Bernard Bernard, who will fight for the welterweight national title over 12 rounds, while the ever-energetic Paulus Amavila will be confronting Morsande Johannes in a 10-round junior welterweight national title bout. Nestor Thomas and Salaties Moses will open the day’s proceedings with their bantamweight fight over six rounds.
However, all attention tomorrow night will be on King Tee Dee and Ekandjo, who will stretch it out for over four rounds for the national catchweight showdown, which will be the main fight of the evening.
Through similar initiatives, Project Never Walk Alone has already successfully delivered over 4 890 pairs of shoes to vulnerable barefooted school kids in the Hardap, Omaheke, Erongo and Kavango East regions, and there are still over 70 000 barefooted school children patiently waiting for their turn to be assisted with brand-new pairs of shoes.
Tomorrow’s event aims to raise funds for those 70 000 barefooted awaiting kids, and King Tee Dee and Ekandjo have joined forces to assist the needy children. VIP tables are pegged at N$20 000 inclusive of dinner and drinks, while VIP single tickets cost N$2 000 and standard tickets are going for N$500. All tickets are available at Webtickets countrywide.
