WINDHOEK – Dinineni Taukuheke Haihambo, 39, scored a minor victory in the Windhoek Magistrate Court on Friday when Magistrate Justine Asino reduced the bail of N$30 000 he was granted in July by N$5 000 to N$25 000.
It was also ordered that Haihambo, if he pays bail, must report twice a week on Mondays and Fridays between 08h00 and 10h00 at the offices of the Serious Crime in Windhoek.
Haihambo must also surrender all his travel documents to the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Nghilalulwa and must not apply for any new travel documents until his case is finalised.
Another of his bail conditions states that he may not leave the district of Windhoek without the prior permission of Nghilalulwa and must not interfere with the ongoing police investigation either directly or indirectly.
Haihambo is charged with the killing of a Chinese national at Prosperita in May this year and the attempted murder of another.
It is alleged by the State that Haihambo accompanied by Sheelekeni Erasmus Ndiikongela aged 23, 25-year-old Fillemon Nghilenga and 35-year-old Timotheus Timotheus Kadhila tried to rob the Chinese at a building site in Prosperita and after meeting resistance from the Chinese battered Jian Xin Wu to death with a tyre lever and attempted to kill Zhi Zong by shooting him in the chest.
The incident occurred on May 15 this year.
Information made available at the time indicated that the four suspects broke into a warehouse in Nickel Street, Prosperita, that the Chinese were busy constructing. The Chinese resided on site. The suspects apparently demanded money from the Chinese, who refused, resulting in the deceased being assaulted severely with the tyre lever and Zhi being shot in the chest.
The murder and attempted murder trial of all four accused is set to resume in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on January 20, 2014 after it was postponed in October for further investigations.
Margaret Amaambo appeared for Haihambo on the ticket of the Department of Legal Aid and Samantha Diergaardt for the State.
Nghilenga and Kadhila are out on bail and Ndiikongela with Haihambo remained in custody since their arrest in late May.
