WINDHOEK – One of Namibia’s most promising golfers Edwin Kutara, has received another opportunity to make his mark at the upcoming Sunshine Tour Qualifying School Golf Challenge, slated for Bloemfontein, South Africa, in January next year.

Kutara also participated in the same competition earlier this year where he gave a good account of himself in a field of world-class golfers where he finished in the top 130 from 250 golfers. The Electricity Control Board (ECB), through the Namibia Amateur Golf Union (NAGU), stepped in financially to assist the young Namibian golfer realize his dream of becoming a world acclaimed golfer through a N$10 000 sponsorship to NAGU. Kutara also participated in this year’s Namibian Golf Open, where he finished 6th overall and was the 2nd best performer in the Namibian team.

Handing over the sponsorship to NAGU, ECB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Siseho Simasiku, said the ECB believes Kutara is an unpolished gem, worth investing money in, hence the ECB’s immediate step to ensure he participates in the upcoming Sunshine Tour Qualifying School Golf Challenge. Simasiku further urged Kutara to make full use of the opportunity and to transform himself into a noted athlete, and become a real Namibian ambassador and formidable brand like any other in the world of sports. “This sponsorship will enable his participation and also boost his ambitions of becoming a professional golfer in the not too distant future. Namibia boasts a number of noteworthy sports ambassadors across various disciplines, but these individuals did not just become sports icons overnight, they did so through mentoring, nurturing and most importantly, constant physical, mental, emotional and financial support,” said Simasiku.
