WINDHOEK – The non-availability of a docket at the Windhoek High Court for the umpteenth time secured the freedom of an alleged poacher, who was trial-awaiting for the past year and two months.
“Justice delayed is justice denied,” said Magistrate Tuvoye Nuule when she denied the State represented by Prosecutor Seredine Jacobs another remand for the docket to be found.
After the matter was put aside for two hours on request of the State in order to try and get the investigating officer to bring the docket to court, Nuule had enough and withdrew the charges against Jason Kafifi (32). He was arrested on September 14 for hunting huntable game with one black Wildebeest in the Kappsfarm area without a permit.
He also faced a charge of escaping from lawful custody. Nuule however warned Kafifi that he could be re-arrested should the police and the State get their act in order. But for now he is a free man.
