WINDHOEK – The Namibian fistball season draws to a close tomorrow when the Bank Windhoek National Cup will be played at the DTS sport fields in Windhoek.

Matches will be played in two categories, the National A league and the National B league categories – meaning fistball fans are in for a special treat as German fistball legend, Dirk Schachtsiek, will also be in action.

The 48-year old Schachtsiek and his two sons will join up with a couple of local players to form a team that will compete in the A league category. Schachtsiek is the most successful fistballer in the world to date, having won numerous national and international titles with his club team, TSV Hagen and the German national team.

As recently as 2009, he won the Senior World Club Championships while his eldest son, Ole, is a German U18 national team player. However, the German visitors will face some tough local opposition.

SKW are expected to field a strong team in the A league category. The defending champions are fresh from their participation in the Fistball Weltcup in Windhoek a fortnight ago where they played against international club teams from Germany and Brazil.

Also with a chance to win the trophy is Cohen FC 1, who have proven themselves as worthy opponents during the season. Another team to vie for the cup is the U18 national team. National team coach, Andreas Minz, has entered his team for the competition in order to kick off the team’s preparation for the U18 World Championships in April next year.

The field of participants is complemented by Cohen FC 2 and SFC Sport Club from Swakopmund. The B league category has been dominated by Cohen FC 3 for the past couple of seasons after winning the Bank Windhoek National League Championship recently without losing a match, and hope to add another title to their already impressive collection of championship trophies.

The games start tomorrow monring at 08h00 and the day will close off with an awards evening at 19h00, organised by the Fistball Association of Namibia.
