NAMPOL Traffic law enforcement officers got its student training up to speed recently, with an on hands practical evaluation testing on the Laser Speed Detection equipment, which forms part of the three month training course held in Windhoek.
Would be traffic officers representing Namibia’s many regions, were given the opportunity to try their skills out on the speed trapping device, which was set up on a busy road way to measure the speed of the motors passing by.
A record number of 99 students committed themselves to the 2013 Nampol Traffic training course which started on 17 July and ends on 1 November, held at the Israel Patric Iyambo Police College. The students still have two examinations to complete, and with a 70% pass rate the standard of our traffic officers in the unit is kept high.
On the scene were Sgt Kock (Traffic Officer Opuwo) and Warrant Officer Coetzee (Unit Commander Rehoboth Traffic Unit) who accompanied the men and ladies to the road side. The students were given the chance to explain the equipment and procedures when operating the Speed Detection camera, and were assessed on their level of competence and operations knowledge.
The LTI 2020 Speed Measuring device is one of the three Laser Speed Detection devices which the Traffic departments around Namibia are using to conduct speed measuring operations.
Once these students have passed the Traffic Officers course, they will be deployed countrywide by Nampol Traffic to be used as law enforcement officers. “This injection will help to boost the visibility of traffic law enforcement officers on our roads, and ease the burden of current manpower shortages,” said Warrant Office Coetzee.”
