Home Business 130 graduate from business school

WINDHOEK – One hundred and thirty Namibians graduated from the Southern Business School last Friday in Windhoek, where the Commissioner of Inland Revenue in the Ministry of Finance, Sam Shivute, issued a reminder that the shortage of skilled labour could lower the country’s productivity.

Shivute who was a guest speaker at the South Africa-based distance learning institution’s Windhoek branch graduation ceremony, congratulated graduates by telling them that “today marks one of the occasions that will lead to the realization of Vision 2030.” The shortage of skilled labour, he said, would not only hamper productivity in the country, but ultimately  could make it impossible to realise the goal of Vision 2030.

In 2004, Namibia adopted Vision 2030, which is a national strategy that clearly spells out the country’s development programmes and strategies to achieve the objective of becoming an industrialised nation by the year 2030.

The Southern Business School was established in South Africa in 1996 to provide recognised qualifications to contribute to the body of managerial talent. The institution’s qualifications focus on management and its various specialist streams, which enable it to focus all its resources on helping to develop leaders and managers.

The Windhoek branch of the Southern Business School is tasked with assisting students in Namibia. The idea is to make distance learning more convenient for Namibian students as they can direct their queries directly to the Windhoek office without the inconvenience of long distance phone calls to South Africa.
