Response to Mr Mark Bensberg’s (British High Commissioner to Namibia) article 28/2/08
While High Commissioner Mr Bensberg’s article is entitled “No Sanctions on Zimbabwe”, a close reading of the article reveals that the article covers a wider range of issues than economic sanctions.
In fact, from a close reading of Mr Bensberg’s article, one can abstract the following claims that have been made either implicitly or explicitly by Mr Bensberg.
Dear reader, this is regurgitation of the British foreign policy on Zimbabwe since year 2000, which is always papered with amnesia.
– That there are no illegal economic sanctions that have been imposed on Zimbabwe by the United Kingdom and the West at large.
– That at no point in time did Britain make any commitment to fund the land reform process in Zimbabwe.
– That Zimbabwe receives no balance of payments support due to consequences of its own making.
– That “democratic change” in Zimbabwe is the sine qua non for a solution to Zimbabwe’s challenges.
The Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe wishes to address the claims that have been enumerated above. ??????’??
