WINDHOEK

The annual Aquapentathlon Swimming gala was held last weekend at the Olympia pool in Windhoek while Swakopmund also hosted its own gala for the coastal swimmers.

Beverage company Coca-Cola was the official sponsor for more than 100 participants and the swimmers really had to show their worth, as only those who were more proficient in all four swimming strokes came to the fore to claim victory.

Trophy winners in the junior and senior divisions were compelled to accumulate as many points as they could muster in all four strokes and the 200m Individual Medley category.

In the junior division for the 14-and-Under category, Christine Briedenhann (12 yrs) from Namib Swimming Academy (NSA) won the Victrix Ludorum and JP Engelbrecht (14 yrs) from Swakopmund Swimming Club took honours in the Victor Ludorum.

Both swimmers managed to emerge out of the water with five out of five first places, making them the undisputed champions in the junior category.

The swimmers are gearing up for the forthcoming National Championships scheduled for the end of this month with the end-of-season gala waiting in the wings in South Africa thereafter.

Briedenhann will compete at the Level 3 Prestige Age Group Championships in East London while Engelbrecht will be trying his luck at the Level 2 gala in Germiston.
