The community of Okakarara became the proud owners of a cultural centre when the Okakarara Community Cultural and Tourism Centre (OCCTC) was formerly handed over to the community last week.
Henceforth, the Okakarara Community and Tourism Centre Trust will manage the centre. Until the end of last year, local staff and the German Development Service DED jointly managed the OCCTC with funding from the German Government.
The centre was inaugurated in 2004 at the 100 years commemoration of the Battle of Ohamakari.
The OCCTC Trust, which was founded at the beginning of the year, has already taken possession of the assets developed in close cooperation with the DED and will take responsibility for future development through tourism activities, cultural performances and inter-cultural programmes.
