WINDHOEK
More than 300 grades 10 and 12 learners from 30 secondary schools around the country started the annual Michelle Mclean Children Trust Spring School at Windhoek Secondary School.
The one-week formal lesson presentations by professional teachers cater for Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting on higher and ordinary level in preparation of learners for the end-of-year national examinations.
Bank Windhoek through the MMC Trust is the main sponsor of the Spring School to the tune of N$25 000, and the school is being presented for the seventh year.
“”The Spring School is a commendable effort to improve the subjects that need to be addressed. Learners have always experienced problems in scoring good marks in Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting,” said Urbanus Kaihiva, a representative of the Ministry of Education’s Khomas Regional Office at the official opening.
The main aim of the event is to improve the standard of the particular subjects, to provide learners with model answers, to obtain higher grades, to reinforce certain parts of the syllabus, to provide more individual attention and to accommodate smaller class groups due to over-populated classes during normal terms.
Kaihiva also praised the MMC Trust and teachers willing to assist learners during the holidays.
“The objectives the MMC Trust stands for underline the passion with which you commit yourselves to create environments for learners, our future, to flourish in their hopes and dreams that can one day become realities. Life is precise and learners are fine-tuned by teachers. Teachers must be the appropriate instruments to assist learners at this Spring School,” Kaihiva said.
At Eldorado Secondary School in Khomasdal and at Goreangab Secondary School in Katutura special holiday classes also started yesterday for the week.
