Residents of Sibbinda Constituency were left in shock after a Grade 10 learner died from severe injuries allegedly inflicted by a classmate.

The incident that claimed the life of Kutiya Given Kutiya at Sikosinyana Senior Secondary School in the Sibbinda Constituency happened when the deceased tried to stop a brawl involving other learners.

According to eyewitnesses, he was accidentally struck on the forehead with a brick aimed at another learner.

The fight allegedly broke out after a teacher identified as Josephine Muzuki Mumbula ‘insulted’ the suspect for failing to submit homework as required.

The suspect, in humiliation, in turn ‘insulted’ the teacher.

This sparked a quarrel that led to a fierce fight between the suspect and another learner who, according to sources, is related to the teacher.

During the ensuing brawl, Kutiya intervened to break up the fight but was hit by a brick and died instantly.

According to the Namibian Police Regional Commander for Caprivi Region, Tyvels Kampolo, the suspect was arrested and appeared in court last Friday.
Kutiya comes from Mpengu Village in the Sikubi area.

Meanwhile, a car overturned on the Kongola and Katima Mulilo road killing one person over the weekend, Kampolo confirmed. Police at Katima Mulilo have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Kampolo said the deceased was a female whose identity is still being withheld and the number of the injured could not be established as Kampolo was yet to receive a full report from investigators who attended the scene.
