The country’s sole brewer, Namibia Breweries Limited, recorded a N$1.1 billion turnover and a net profit of N$121 million for the year ending June 30, against a turnover of N$929 million and net profit of N$83 million the previous year.

The turnover and net profit have gone up impressively by 21 percent and 46 percent respectively over a corresponding period last year.

The company’s earnings per share increased by 46 percent.

The Breweries’ Finance Director, Ciaran Duffy, said on Monday: “We had a very successful year.”

“Volumes grew above market growth and we had exceptional performance of Windhoek Lager,” he said.

He said Tafel Lager has not been doing well, which also prompted the company to change the brand’s image, while Windhoek Lager’s exceptional performance was due to Amstel, which has been out of stock for quite some time.

He said the company now looks forward to contain costs and continue to drive savings where possible.

“With regard to consumers, we will strive to maintain high in-bar standards in the country, leverage a wider distribution footprint and Windhoek Lager growth in South Africa, as well as roll out increased availability and visibility in export markets,” he said.

The company’s primary brands are Windhoek Lager, Windhoek Special and Heineken.
