As a token of appreciation for its 13th Radiothon, a Christian private radio station, Channel 7/Media for Christ recently donated a tenth of their N$1,6-million collected during the Radiothon to four charitable organisations of their choice.

At a breakfast function last Friday, cheques amounting to N$42 000 each were handed to the African Leadership Institute, Campus for Christ, Crown Financial Ministries and the Scripture Union.

This amounts to N$168 000, or one tenth of N$1.6-million.

As part of its aim to raise funds through the well-known Radiothon, Channel 7/Media for Christ encouraged 20 towns to take part in this initiative from July 25 to 27 this year.

During the 13th Radiothon, record financial contributions came from towns like Grootfontein which raised N$113 000, N$100 000 from Okahandja, N$90 242 from Mariental and N$529 866 from Windhoek.

Owner of Channel 7/Media for Christ Neal van den Berg expressed satisfaction with the funds that grew from N$1 626 227 to the current N$1 680 000.

Accepting the cheque of N$42 000, Dawie Fourie of African Leadership Institute said the assistance had come at the right time when its demand for leadership training is growing every year.

While in 2006, the institute held only three-week training sessions, this number tripled to nine-weeks training needed for 2007 and next year 21 weeks of leadership training would be required.

Representatives from all the other three beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Channel 7/Media for Christ and promised to put the funds to good use.

Channel 7 first started broadcasting on December 6, 1993, when it also became an independent radio station.

Currently the radio station has 24 FM transmitters which are audible in 37 towns, on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week.

It also broadcasts 17 news bulletins on a daily basis every week. Besides the Radiothon, the radio station focuses on issues like family day, a golf day, the show and other events.
