Hermanus van Wyk and Thomas Andreas have won this year’s essay writing competition of the Namibian College of Open Learning (Namcol), it was announced in a press statement.

The two part-time learners won N$1 000 each for the best essays in Grades 10 and 12.

The winning essays are today published in this segment.

“As part of promoting the correct use of both spoken and written English for Namcol learners, the institution has introduced an ‘English Week’ project.

“During these weeks (April – September, one week a month) Namcol learners have been expected to communicate with each other through the medium of English.

“In addition, learners also took part in an essay writing competition at various centres countrywide,” said Rholene Bok, Namcol’s PRO.
