WINDHOEK

With rain prospects countrywide generally looking good, Namibians should expect more showers before the weekend, especially in the north, central and eastern parts of the country, said a weather forecaster.

Weather forecaster from the Windhoek Meteorological Service, Odilo Kgobetsi, says during the next few days, the southern regions of Karas and Hardap will be dry while the north, east and some areas of the central high lands will receive showers.

“No cloud development is expected in the south and there will be weak frontal temperatures in that part of the country. The only visible clouds will be pushing up northwards where thundershowers are expected,” said Kgobetsi.

Although rain prospects were forecast for the capital yesterday, with partly cloudy conditions and thundershowers, by Friday these conditions are expected to change to sunny and hot.

The north-east is also expected to be partly cloudy with thundershowers up until the weekend, leaving the south very hot.

According to the latest rainfall figures released by the weather office on Tuesday, areas close to the Hosea Kutako International Airport received the highest falls of 40 millimetres. This was followed by Eros Park with 32 mm, Klein Windhoek with 24 mm, Avis recorded 17 mm with Windhoek getting 15.8 mm.

Other areas that have received significant rainfall include Nkurenkuru in the Kavango Region, which recorded 12 mm, Kuduberg farm in the Erongo Region 14 mm, Khorixas 2.8 mm and Aranos 3.6 mm. Minimal falls were recorded in Outapi, Okongo and Bagani, which received less than a millimetre while Ondangwa received 7 mm.
