WINDHOEK – The Nedbank Singers, a group of 22 young people, sponsored by Nedbank Namibia, under the musical direction of Ernst van Biljon will be singing a short programme of religious music at two churches this Sunday.
The first performance will be at 11h00, after the morning service, at the Congregational Church in Andrew Kloppers Street, Khomasdal.
The second performance will be at 19h00 in the evening after Holy Mass in the St Mary’s Cathedral.
There will be no entrance fee, but people are free to donate to the choir fund after the performances.
The 30-minute programme will include pieces from the Renaissance to composers of the 20th century.
Highlights in the programme will be Ave Verum by 16th Century English composer, William Byrd, Ave Maris Stella by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and pieces from “Navidad Nuestra”, a folk setting of the Christmas story by Latin American composer Ariel Ramirez.
The choir will, true to its tradition, sing a couple of Namibian and other African religious songs, too.
