Swapo Regional Coordinator for the Ohangwena Region Nestor Shuukwanyama says the new party, Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), is using tribalism as a tool to recruit members for itself in Ohangwena.
Shuukwanyama told New Era yesterday that tribalism in his region exists and the new party is using the rationale that Swapo “sidelines” the Kwanyama tribe.
The Ohangwena Region is a habitat for the Kwanyama, Ondonga, and Uukwambi people.
Shuukwanyama argued that Kwanyama names seem to dominate the list of those believed to be RDP members.
So far, Shuukwanyama added, the Ondobe and Oshikango constituencies seem to have been influenced to join the RDP with the district treasurers from both constituencies having already resigned from the Swapo party.
The situation prompted the Swapo party to host community meetings in the 11 districts of the region.
