WINDHOEK – The preparatory committee of the Okakarara Trade Fair Society say this year’s fair slated for the first week of September will have better exhibitions and entertainment compared to previous years.
This year, the event is expected to take place concurrently with the seventh anniversary of the trade fair on September 03 until September 08. The event, which will take place at the Okakarara Business Centre, will for the first time this year exhibit the Namibian amateur boxing team, the organising chairman of the Okakarara Trade Fair Society, Roger Kambatuku, told New Era this week. “This year we are maximising a bit on our entertainment with boxing, pool competitions and tug of war as part of our bigger entertainment, while oviritje and other music will just add glamour to the event,” said Caleb Majooka-Kututara, the administrative coordinator of the Okakarara Trade Fair Society.
Due to infrastructural challenges, the organisers will not accommodate more than 400 exhibitors, said Kambatuku, who explained that the capacity of the Okakarara Business Centre is limited. Last year, 378 exhibitors were hosted, Kambatuku added. The highlight of last year’s fair was the agricultural show, Kambatuku said.
Before there used to be no agricultural show, due to the livestock quarantine that was in place. “Agriculture was the main attraction last year and we saw an increase in the number of livestock exhibitors,” said Kambatuku, who added that the fair also catered for a camel exhibition last year. At this stage, organisers are still registering exhibitors, Kambatuku and Majooka-Kututara said.
