ONDANGWA – Oshana regional governor Clemens Kashuupulwa has urged the region – especially its political leaders and technocrats – to desist from corrupt, immoral activities.
Speaking at the official opening on corruption risk assessment (CRA) yesterday, the veteran governor said the presence of the leadership at the event signified council’s commitment to root out corruption in the region.
“Your presence at the workshop shows us therefore that your leadership is determined to have a corrupt-free Oshana Region in the near future,” the governor alluded.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chief
Public Education and Corruption Prevention Officer Helena Iitula said the workshop seeks to guide the regional council to asses if there existed corrupt practices in their administration and to also aid council to close all loopholes that may lead to corruption.
The workshop will be followed by an implementation of a mitigation plan that will guide the council in its operations.
The governor said the risk assessment workshop was long overdue, taking into account the official launch of the national anti-corruption strategy on September 26, 2016 that required ethics training and CRA to be conducted in all government offices and agencies.
He emphasised that the workshop was necessary as it will impart essential skills and knowledge to identify corrupt practices.
He said the skills and knowledge obtained will further serve as a roadmap to eradicate wastage of scarce public resources and increase the degree of integrity, accountability and transparency within the regional council. Kashuupulwa was also optimistic that the skills shared will create awareness on corrupt practices, corrupt ethics and integrity in the region.
“People in the region must understand as to why corruption is immoral and a criminal act and take a moral stand to fight against corruption and all its manifestations in the region,” he said further.
