Preparations of this year’s Windhoek Fashion Week are in full gear. This is set for the capital on November 6-10, 2018, with the venue to be announced at a later stage. According to one of the organisers, Kalistus Mukoroli, this year they are looking at about 35 local and international fashion designers to show case their garments at the show. “We have already informed the successful designers who went through the audition. Now we are just waiting on their final confirmation in term of participations,” says Mukoroli, adding that they are in the final stages of preparations with the deck and tech team to ensure everything is in place.
He adds that, the event has this year looked at hosting accessories designers and other elements of the show. For now, he cannot confirm the number of local and international models, as they have received huge number of those interested to display their talents. The audition of the models was done in Windhoek, Ongwediva and Swakopmund.
Mukoroli says this year they have received the double amount of models that came to cast in Windhoek only, compared to last year. “With this huge interest, it shows that the industry is growing and models need the platform which is fashion week,” he says. “Windhoek Fashion Week is open to everyone in Namibia whether a model, designer or industry professionals to participate in, and also allow international industry professionals to be part of it as well, to allow skills transfer and networking for possible collaboration.”
Heading into the last few weeks, the team is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that they deliver the best show. The Windhoek Fashion Week is open for collaboration and implores companies or individuals to come on board.
