The Omongua Superior Breeders of Namibia once again opened their hearts and purses when six breeders donated proceedings from the sale of a pregnant Van Rooy ewe to the school that performs the best in Grade 10 level in Omaheke this year.
Deputy director of education Victor Makgone expressed his gratitude towards the breeders’ N$5 000 donation towards this good cause, stressing the importance of motivating students to perform at their “absolute” best in Grade 10. Dirkie Coetzee, a member of the Omongua Superior Breeders, bought the ewe for N$1 600 and the breeders topped it up with N$3 400 in order to donate N$5 000 to the school that performs the best.
The fifth Omongua Superior Breeders Auction took place at the Namboer pens in Windhoek. The auction was a small stock feast when 46 Boer Goats, 15 Van Rooy, and ten Damara sheep of the highest quality went under the hammer.
Well known stud breeders Nichlas Mbingeneeko from Skuilhoek Stud and Vaughn Komomungondo from Tsunami Studs offered their superior quality animals, complimented by animals from guest sellers Dr Esau Kaakunga, Mbaroro Katjiuanjo and Dirkie Coetzee in what was one of the highlights on the calendar of small stock auctions this year.
Now in its fifth year, the annual production auction always attracts buyers from neighbouring countries. For the first four years, the auction raised money for Regina Kondombolo, owner of the Hephata Care Centre in Wanaheda in Katutura towards her admirable work amongst mentally challenged Namibians, despite her own physical disability.
Mbingeneeko and Komomungondo say the breeders believe in ploughing back something into the community. “This year we shifted our focus to education and decided on donating the proceeds to the school in the Omaheke that performs the best in Grade 10 in 2016. Education is of vital importance for Omaheke where we experience a very high level of unemployment, partly due to uneducated youth. Every bit helps and we are sure our contribution will be of inspiration to students to perform well this year,” stresses Komomungondo.
