Bank Windhoek and the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) will be presenting A Camel Thorn & A Rhino Horn a music theatre production on June 2, 3 and 4 at the NTN Backstage in Windhoek.
Aldo Behrens crafted the story and text, based on a follow up of “Under the Camel Thorn Tree,” a theatre production performed in 2011. The play features well-known actors such as David Ndjavera, Keamogetsi Joseph Molapong, Jean-Louis Knouwdts, Michelle Namases, McDonald Gaomab, Mervin Classen, Kadeescha du Plessis and Aldo Behrens. “A Camel Thorn and a Rhino Horn” explores the art of Theatre and of Drama. The art of scripting a play, of auditioning, of designing voice and speech, movement, décor and costume. Also of lights, sound and characterisation,”says Aldo Behrens.
Meanwhile the opening and prize-giving ceremony of the 2017 Bank Windhoek Triennial will be held on September 1 next year at the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN. The date for submitting artworks is June 30, 2017 at the regional centres. Bank Windhoek and the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) launched the fourth Bank Windhoek Triennial last week. The Bank Windhoek Triennial is a forum where Namibian artists can be part of an art exhibition that promotes excellence as an essential ingredient. It is also a communally inspiring event that challenges Namibian artists to show their best efforts on a truly professional level.
The Bank Windhoek Triennial is open to all artists who are Namibian citizens, domicile or permanent resident. Each artist may submit a maximum of three artworks, produced no earlier than 2015. Entry forms can be obtained from the NAGN, Regional Collection Centres, Bank Windhoek Branches, or can be downloaded from the following websites: www.bankwindhoek.com.na or www.nagn.org.na.
Entrants for the 2017 Bank Windhoek Triennial can submit their artwork in any of the following mediums:Two-dimensional art (drawing, collage, mixed media.), Painting, Print making, Carving, Clay sculptures and casting, Assemblage (i.e. 3D mixed media and construction), Photography, Video and installation, Performance, public art and text / word art and Interdisciplinary work. The prize money has been increased as an incentive to artists. An overall first, second and third prize will be awarded, while a merit prize will be awarded to the most promising young artist, under the age of 35 years on December 312017. The first prize winner will receive N$50,000 with the second and third prize winners receiving N$35,000 and N$25,000 consecutively. The merit award winner will receive a N$10,000 cash prize.
