Ambitious efforts by the DTA party to invade and penetrate the traditional Swapo strongholds in northern Namibia appears to have accelerated, as its brand-new headquarters in the north are expected to be completed by the end of June.
According to DTA leader McHenry Venaani, the party abandoned its initial plans to rent a building and opted to construct their office at Oshakati a month ago.
“The construction has started. The [acting] secretary general [Elma Dienda] is in the northern regions to check up on things. She has not updated me yet on how far they are but I think they have the deadline of June to finish up,” explained Venaani.
“The building that we trying to rent was old and dilapidated and not fit for a proper office, so we decided to construct one,” stated Venaani.
He indicated the single-storey building would house six operational offices, a boardroom, toilets and a parking bay for seven vehicles.
The politician however refused to divulge information on the total cost involved in constructing the office and other incidentals.
“The initial thing will be that we are going to vote in a new secretary general around June at an elective central committee. The headquarters will be managed by the secretary general who will be full-time,” said the proactive DTA leader.

He continued: “I will also be having an office of the presidency at the headquarters and from time to time we will be moving to that office. The main person or the show will be run by the support staff in that office.”
He added that the party has in the meantime relocated its headquarters from Ausspanplatz to Windhoek West, until the Oshakati building is completed.
Venaani vehemently denied the decision to move the office to Oshakati was prompted by the fact that the party sold its former base at Khomasdal and subsequently decided not to renew the rental agreement for the Ausspanplatz office.
When he announced the moving of the headquarters to Oshakati, Venaani indicated that it is worrying that Swapo remains unchallenged in the northern regions, while it continues to make inroads in other parts of the country that were previously dominated by opposition parties.
However, Swapo politicians were not moved by Venaani’s assertions.
