Windhoek

Local golfers are to tee off at the inaugural edition of the Shoka Pro-Am Golf Tour at the Windhoek Golf & Country Club at 08h00 on Friday.
The programme will stage two more golf days in Tsumeb and Swakopmund respectively, on yet to be announced dates.
The initial proposal for the Shoka Pro-Am Golf Tour came after two young men, Andreas Shoombe and Frans Katjimuine, realised the need to take the game of golf to all Namibians in all corners of the country.
There is also a need to encourage upcoming Namibian amateur golfers to become professionals. However, it’s difficult to become professional since golf is very expensive, with very few tournaments on its annual calendar.
And why is this particular event so different? Firstly, the organisers say, it is the first golf tour in Namibia and it is not only one golf day. Rather it involves three golf days hosted in different parts of the country.
Secondly, it brings professionals and amateurs together and this is a very good opportunity for amateurs to improve their skills. The tour is proudly sponsored by Syntex Technologies.
The prize giving ceremony is slated for 18h00 on Friday. For inquiries, please contact Shoombe @0811289795 or Katjimuine @0812697533.
