Home Sports Welwitchias face trial of strength this weekend

Windhoek

The question on many lips is whether it will be sixth time lucky when the winless Windhoek Draught Welwitschias entertain the visiting Griquas in their sixth Curie Cup match at Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek tomorrow.

The Namibian amateurs are finding the going tough in the South African Provincial second tier tournament, the highly competitive Currie Cup.

After five rounds of matches, the Welwitschias are holding the wooden spoon, having failed to register a single win and suffering heavy consecutive defeats in their opening five matches home and away.

The Griquas currently top the log standings with 24 points, having won all five of their opening fixtures. However, homeground advantage and crowd support could give the hosts a slight edge on their opponents, and many believe this is the ideal opportunity for the experimental side to turn the tables.

For tomorrow’s clash coach John Williams has made five changes to the team that lost against 7-47 against Steval Pumas in Nelspruit last weekend. Shaun du Preez, Tinues Du Plessis, Herman Krause, Heinrich Smit and Philip Nashikako all got the nod and have been included in the starting lineup.

The team reads as follows:

1 Shaun du Preez
2 Gerhard Lotter
3 AJ de Klerk
4 Muniovito Kasiringua
5 Tinus Du Plessis
6 Rohan Kitshoff (c)
7 Herman Krause
8 Leneve Damens
9 Arthur Bouwer
10 Heinrich Smit
11 Philip Nashikako
12 Francois Wiese
13 Darryl de La Harpe
14 Leslie Klim
15 Johan Tromp
16 Hauta Veii
17 Quintin Esterhuizen
18 Denzil van Wyk
19 Zane Groenewald
20 J C Winkler
21 Justin nel
22 Riaan van Zyl
