The Namibia Table Tennis Association (NTTA) launched a successful season opening tourney in Windhoek last weekend, with players from around the country lining up to display their skills.

The event was dominated by SKW, which claimed top positions in all categories, apart from the junior ladies’ category.

A gold medal for the senior men was well deserved by Tomas Zapata with a consistent performance throughout, tailed by Heiko Fleidl, Wayne Green and Dietrich Möwes, all members of SKW, in that order.

Veteran Christa Mrozek (SKW) secured the senior ladies’ title when she edged ahead of her junior challenger, Reese Saunderson, leaving Kaitlyn Beukes and Bregida George, all from Eliminators, to secure 3rd and 4th positions respectively.

Yannick Böhn outsmarted pre-tournament favourite Dietrich Möwes in the final of the junior men’s category to win the gold medal. Both players are from SKW.

TT Club Delton Dreyer from Mariental High School and Kean Tait from Windhoek Gymnasium finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

The junior ladies’ title was decided between the long-standing rivals Reese Saunderson (Oranjemund Private School) and Kaitlyn Beukes (Windhoek Gymnasium). The former narrowly came out tops against her stable mate from Eliminators.

Despite a number of junior players from the capital and the Hardap Region not being able to attend, the standard of play was very encouraging with a number of new junior players making their presence felt.

It was also positive to note the progress of the junior players with two junior players finishing among the top 5 in the men’s category, while two junior ladies also ended in the top 3 places in the senior ladies’ category.
