Walvis-Bay – Earlier this month, the FNB NTA Tennis Development program conducted a basic tennis coach training course at Walvis Bay, under the tutorship of FNB NTA tennis development coordinator Kallie Heese and S.P Van Wyk.
All together 12 aspiring coaches and schoolteachers from Walvisbay and Arandis converged in the harbour town with the ultimate aim to get gain more knowledge on how to rejuvenate the sport of tennis in the two towns while offering school children the opportunity to learn the basics of playing tennis. Heese praised the excellent results achieved by the participants in the various training modules that included playability, presenting a tennis lesson to groups of kids, written test and overall participation. Due to their good performance Leana Mostert, Rainer Teichmann, Melanie Franken, Franklin Fransman, and Julian Dausab received certificates at the end of the course. “We hope coaches will apply their newly found knowledge and organize school teams to compete against each other in the region. We would also like to urge them to start coaching kids at schools and in their private capacity The most oustanding kids should start playing National Junior Tourneys,” enthusiasts Heese. Mostert will be the tennis coordinator for the Erongo region and expressed the hope that the new coaches will support her in this endeavour to let tennis flourish this year. The new coaches organized a competition that included individual winners and a champion team.
