… with N$186m office complex
The Omaheke Regional Council is constructing a new government office park for N$186 million. The new government office complex, which aims at accelerating decetralisation of government services in the region, is expected to be completed in 2019.
The construction, which will be fully funded by government through the Ministry Urban and Rural Development, is expected to house all government ministries under one roof.
The Gobabis Municipality has availed a 10-hectare portion of land along the B6 Gobabis-Buitepos Road and the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction took place last week at Rakutuka, south of Gobabis.
Speaking at the ceremony,Omaheke Regional Governor Festus Ueitele noted that the construction of the regional government office park is a stepping stone towards achieving government’s goal in bringing services closer to the people.
“I am extremely pleased this morning and would like to urge you to continue ensuring that we are indeed committed to working together in the spirit of cooperation and partnership; working together to ensure that we achieve our goals/vision; working together in harnessing the Omaheke Region,” said Ueitele.
He called on the people of the region to work together to ensure that the project is turned into a development success story that is capable of improving lives, reducing poverty and giving Omaheke citizens better hope for the future.
Ueitele says the people of Omaheke should celebrate the great achievements by government.
“Our people, the people of this region, deserve the best, even though they often times are unable to demand assistance through formal structures,” he added.
“They deserve quality service delivery. Their ability to take charge of local government and to contribute to decision-making will undoubtedly be critical to the effectiveness of rural local government. It will be crucial to the development of the region in the long term.”
He said government’s obligation is to create access to resources and assist with access to programmes that promote good use of resources through capacity building support.
“Capacity building can also be defined as support or interventions that empower people, communities or organisations to achieve their objectives,” Ueitele said.
