The Editor’s Forum of Namibia (EFN) has issued a statement of condolence in respect of the death early on Wednesday morning of renowned journalist Jan Poolman.
“The Editors’ Forum of Namibia (EFN) is saddened by the death yesterday of veteran journalist Jan Poolman in Windhoek’s Roman Catholic Hospital,” Joseph Ailonga the chairperson of ECN, said in a brief media statement yesterday (Thursday). “In mourning Poolman, the EFN would like to remember him for his sterling and mature contribution to the robustness of Namibian journalism during his illustrious career of close to three decades,” the EFN charperson further stated.
Poolman worked for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) before and shortly after Independence, the now defunct Sunday paper Tempo, and the Republikein as a reporter where he rose through the ranks to senior political reporter before he was appointed to run the Namibian Sun as editor, under the same stable of Democratic Media Holdings (DMH), now Namibia Media Holdings (NMH). He also worked for New Era and The Namibian as a senior reporter and lastly at Informanté as its deputy editor before his untimely passing.
He will be missed by the Namibian journalism fraternity, especially his contemporaries. The EFN also extended condolences to the Poolman family and to the Informanté team, where Poolman was employed as deputy editor at the time of his death.
