A passenger died on the way to hospital following a head-on collision between two vehicles between Eembaxu and Eenhana in Ohangwena Region on Wednesday night. Two other passengers who were seriously injured were rushed to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.

A Toyota Corolla sedan and a Toyota double cab were involved in the deadly accident. A case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving has been opened against the drivers.

“The police opened a case and once the investigation is complete the docket will be sent to the prosecutor general to determine who to charge,” explained the Ohangwena Police spokesperson Sergeant Kuume Itumba.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla sedan escaped unharmed while the driver of the Toyota double cab sustained minor injuries. The driver of the double cab was alone in the vehicle.
Sergeant Kuume Itumba said both vehicles were written off.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Iliana Fikameni Ndeshiwana Nakafingo. Her next of kin have been informed.

Police in Oshikoto Region have also opened a case of culpable homicide after an 81-year-old pedestrian was hit by a truck on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the Onkoshi gravel road in Etosha National Park.
Johan Naude died on the way to Omuthiya Hospital. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.
Investigation into the matter continues.
