Rundu

The three security guards arrested for the theft of N$300 000 from First National Bank (FNB) at Rundu – the money meant to restock ATM machines – were denied bail in a packed to the rafters Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The suspects, identified as Joseph Fillemon, 40, Hamutenya Magnus, 26, and Muremi Alfeus, 29, were arrested on Saturday after a huge stash of cash they received from FNB in Rundu to restock the ATMs “vanished”, according to them, and they could not give any satisfactory explanation as to how the money went ‘missing.’
The three accused were all denied bail by the magistrate.

“If the accused are granted bail in this matter they will interfere with police investigations,” said Ileni Velikoshi the magistrate.

The accused were advised to lodge a formal bail application if they wished to do so.
The case was remanded to January 19 for the accused to get legal aid representation or defence counsel of their choice at their own cost and for further police investigations.

Prosecutor EK Mayavero appeared for the State.
