WINDHOEK
A United Underground collaboration featuring party punk rockers Half Price, grooving metal machines Bulletscript from Cape Town and local heroes Famaz Attak is the major attraction tonight at the Warehouse Theatre
Unknown to many, Half Price, Bulletscript and Famaz Attak share a lot of history. Kyle plays drums for both Bulletscript and Half Price while Rene was Half Price’s original lead guitarist before he moved back to his country of origin in 2008 to start Famaz Attak. For many years all three bands had planned to tour together, and are super excited that United Underground has finally made it happen. In the spirit of “united we stand, divided we fall”, United Underground organises gigs with different alternative genres ranging from metal to hard core, punk and even ska. This tour will be the first time that the organisation will spread its wings across the South African boarders, to make operation desert storm a truly historic tour.
Since 2001 Half Price has been spreading their high octane, and dangerously infectious party punk rock extensively in Southern Africa and Europe but they have not been seen in Namibia since the Amphi’s New Year’s Eve party of 2006/7. That night, it was bad, it was dangerous, it was dirty, and it was downright suicidal – this Cape Town band knows no limits or boundaries. Half Price encouraged a crowd of 2000 strong to ‘storm the barricades’ and started a full scale riot which ended in overzealous security forces unleashing canisters of pepper spray into the crowd. On that fateful night there were many drunken South African – Namibian friendships forged and naked Namibian woman everywhere. When the dust cleared and the sun finally came up, the lead singer was seen wandering the desert with a strange girl, no shoes, no money, no phone numbers and no way to get back home.
Two time award winning rock band Famaz Attak don’t need an introduction to Namibian crowds. Since emerging onto the Namibian music scene in March 2010, Famaz Attak has made a huge impact with their DIY blend of live energetic stance and crazy rock n’ roll antics. The band is set out to promote good party vibes and hope to inspire, mesmerise and uplift Namibian crowds at every live performance. Famaz Attak has since played shows and events all around Namibia, recorded two full length albums, the first one in November 2010 entitled Famazuiticles and the second in October 2012 entitled Live fast, die young. They have filmed music videos for Drummerboy, Pirates, First Song and Tales from the Camelthorn Tree; did a colab with Namibian Kwaito artist, EES and The Dogg; were nominated at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Namibian Music Awards of which they won Best Rock/Alternative award in 2012 and 2013 and also reached NTN’s 2012 and 2013 Battle of the Band finals. They have shared the stages with most of Namibian bands and also SA’s legends Just Jinjer, Arno Carstens, Prime Circle, Goldfish, Kurt Darren and played Oppikoppi 2011 in South Africa.
Bulletscript returns to Windhoek, for the first time since the “Smoke, Dust and Whiskey Tour” in 2011. Having recently released the Knotted EP, the band’s gone from strength to strength, boasting a strong line-up of seasoned performers, placing great emphasis on solid song writing, stellar stage performance and a delivery so intense, that your neck will be in a constant state of head banging ecstasy.
Last year saw the release of the band’s debut EP, “Knotted”, which has consistently garnered favorable reviews across the board. With a busy year behind them since the release, BULLETSCRIPT has performed at various shows on the South African circuit, notably at Africa’s biggest metal festival, Witchfest, alongside international heavyweights, Cannibal Corpse, Hatebreed, Kataklysm, Decapitated, Aborted and many more.
Bulletscript is a band with a clear message – open your eyes to the world around you, and question everything, taking nothing, and nobody, for granted.
This show is proudly brought to you by Kleiner Keiler and Radiowave 96.7FM, Namibia’s No. 1 Hit Music Station.Entrance is N$90 @ the door.
