Again, Events
Grrrrrrr! Og man! Don’t you just bloody hate it when you get to a show that was scheduled to start at 2pm but then only commences at midnight? Braaaaaaaa? Or when you are at a show, in the crowd and a fight brakes out?
The other day I attended an Oviritje show. To my surprise, they had a cover charge for both adults and children. A show that is scheduled to start at 9pm, what is a child supposed to be doing at a show on a Friday night? Do we have parents that take kids to live shows that are clearly meant for adult consumption? To confirm it for you, yes at that said show that I attended, I mothers breastfeeding while doing the navara moves! I saw kids running up and down the hall while adults are drinking, smoking and getting rowdy. How? How can an events organisers be that ignorant? Why would you have kids at a live show meant for adults? Why?
Apart from that, that show was meant to start at 9pm, the show started at 1am because they were “waiting for people” to come from an African Stars game. So let me get this right, audiences need to be held hostage because the event organiser is waiting for kingdom to come and fill up the hall for the show to start?
I always say…as an entertainer, give me one soul and I will entertain that one person to the best of my freaking abilities. As much as I am hammering events organisers, entertainers are also to be blamed. They put pressure on events organisers not to start the show because well they will not perform for no one! There was an agreement that was in place between you and the event organiser. Hardly do these agreements say “There need to be 1000 people, for me to perform”. Especially if you were paid for your time, my sister-brother you will perform come hell or high waters! Be it to a single soul or none! A real entertainer makes it work! If there is no audience, invite the few that is in the crowd to join you on stage and have a great time with them. Give them a party. Give them their money’s worth. Take selfies with them….do a bit karaoke with them. Give away some of your gear to them. Anything…dammit just make it work!
Events organisers, one can never ever understate the importance of security at a live show. Mense is Mense. With alcohol around, someone is bound to get pissed for some silly reason and a fight is bound to break out. Having security there is being pro-active. As opposed to waiting for an incident to happen then you want to run around looking for a phone because your smartphone is flat, to call City Police and then by the time they arrived damage has been inflicted already.
Oh and that show that I attended? It had no MC. Yes. Tease your mind with the chaos that persisted throughout the night. Events Organisers: Security-CHECK, Timing-Check, Good Times-GUARENTEED!
Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
