Home Crime and Courts Man charged with rape of stepdaughter

Rundu

Santos Ngonga, aged 30, was denied bail when he appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
The accused, a self-employed mechanic in Rundu, was arrested after a case of rape was opened against him by his family.
It was reported on Sunday, September 27, that at about 19h00 the suspect raped the minor at their home in Rundu. The suspect has been married to the victim’s biological mother since 2013.
According to the police he had been raping the child since last year.
“Apparently the suspect took the minor into the bathroom while the mother was seated outside. When the mother went looking for her husband she found that the suspect had locked himself in the bathroom with his stepdaughter. When the child came out of the bathroom her mother collapsed in shock.
“When she regained consciousness she asked her daughter what had happened. The child told her to ask the father and she (the minor) said it has been going on for a long time. She had told her elder sister several times, but she didn’t listen to her,” said Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo in Rundu.
Ngonga appeared before Magistrate Helen Olaiya, while Tjeripo Muruko prosecuted.
The case was remanded to November 4 for further police investigations and the court also advised the suspect to get legal representation, but Ngonga opted to conduct his own defence.
