Police at Outapi in the Omusati Region arrested a 27-year-old man on Friday after he allegedly repeatedly raped a mentally challenged woman. The victim of the suspected serial rapist at Okathitu Kakathindi is a 47-year-old.
In a related matter, police arrested a 20-year-old man for raping an eight-year-old girl at Okatope in Oshikoto. Namibian Police Chief Inspector Kauna Shiwambi said the suspect is a cattle herder from Angola.
In another incident a 30-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire on Saturday evening in Tseiblaagte, Keetmanshoop. Shiwambi said the deceased, Elvis Huneb, was found hanging in a room that he shared with his girlfriend.
“The girlfriend, who was with the deceased in the room, allegedly left the room for few minutes. However, upon her return she found her boyfriend dead,” Shikwambi said, adding that no suicide note was left and his next of kin have been informed.
At Meersig in Walvis Bay two men and two women were arrested after they were found in possession of and dealing in cannabis, worth an estimated N$6 900. Shikwambi said a cash amount of N$31 400 was also confiscated by the police.
In the Khomas Region, a 27-year-old man died instantly after he was stabbed with a knife for unknown reasons at Groot Aub on Saturday. Shikwambi said the name of the deceased was Elago Kushinga, and his next of kin have been informed. She said a suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing and the police investigation continues.
In another unexplained murder, Junias Simpson Igobs succumbed to his injuries after he was stabbed on Sunday with a knife at TransNamib fields in Hosea Kutako Avenue, Windhoek – for unknown reasons. Igobs died upon arrival at Katutura State Hospital, the police said.
At around 15h50 on Friday, a 39-year old male driver of an Opel Corsa died instantly after he lost control of his vehicle, hit a nearby mountain and collided with an oncoming Land Rover on the Trans-Kalahari highway. No one was injured in the Land Rover.
