Just as the bomb timer slowly ticks away so does the time towards this week’s ‘roasting’ of land activist Job Amupanda. The man who took the President to Katutura after 100 days in office says he is ready for the roaster come what may.

“I’m going to the roast to support the arts, uplift the name of free your mind and their hustles so that people can know, understand and appreciate them. I’m very ready to support their hustle,” said Amupanda.

He would be roasted this week Thursday at the Free your Mind show that will take place at the Gateway Conference Centre at 20:00.

The roast is designed to address the land issue by discussing the topic with social commentators such as comedians and business and political personalities in the most humorous way.

Speaking on how he partly agreed to the roast, Amupanda, who is a respected figure among the youth for his bold stance on land, says as a public figure he is trying to drive home the message that “people can have fun about people of influence”.

“The so-called public figures want to be respected so much that if they are made fun of they want to send people to prison. We want to remove such things and demonstrate that people can joke about you. The public have the right to have fun,” he said.

Being one of the most influential Namibians in the country’s political sphere at the moment, Amupanda has earned himself a roast, said Free Your Mind spokesperson Ndemufayo Kaxuxuena.

“Highly vibrant, relevant and somewhat controversial, Amupanda is a top ranking Namibian who deserves recognition for his active participation in the democratic process and addressing the land issue in the country,” said Kaxuxuena.
