A former Chief Executive Officer of PowerCom, Stanley Similo, has been appointed Director-General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for the next five years.

Cabinet’s decision to appoint Similo was announced by Information and Communication Technology Minister Tjekero Tweya yesterday. Tweya said Similo is expected to start at the NBC on October 1.

“Cabinet approved the appointment of Mr Stanley Similo as the Director-General of the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation,” the MICT minister announced during a Cabinet press briefing. Similo replaces Albertus Aochamub, who was appointed to the role of press secretary in the Presidency in July.

NBC’s Chief Human Resources Officer Vezenga Kauraisa has been acting in the role since Aochamub’s departure.
Prior to his appointment as CEO of PowerCom (a subsidiary of Telecom Namibia) Similo served as the head of human resources at First National Bank Namibia Holdings and also as chief spokesperson and human resource officer of mobile phone service operator, Leo.

Similo holds a Bachelor’s degree in communications and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Regis University. He also completed short courses in financial management, management and leadership, as well as television production management through the University of Namibia (UNAM), the University of the Witwatersrand

(WITS), the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Radio Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC).
