Home Sports Wanderers, Unam through to league final

Windhoek

FNB Wanderers on Saturday delivered a blistering performance to book themselves a place in the final of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premiership after beating coastal outfit Kudus by 43-28, at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital.

The win brings the White Stallions, as Wanderers are affectionately known, into contention for top league honours.

In another grappling semifinal clash, the University of Namibia (Unam) narrowly trounced Trustco United by 26-24, to join Wanderers in the final in what is expected to be an epic showdown.

Under the guidance of highly experienced mentor, Johan Diergaardt, Unam played some great entertaining rugby against the equally excellent United, showing good teamwork in almost all departments.

Unam, who have enjoyed a good run for the better part of this season, appeared a different team from the team we saw last season, and on Saturday played some classical attacking rugby from the wings, also displaying super silky ball-handling skills, something that was missing at Unam for many seasons.

As for United, they also enjoyed their fair share of proceedings during the lively encounter, which saw them delivering an assortment of splendid attacks but it was Unam who proved to be the better and hungrier for a win. The latter held their composure on the park to narrowly win the game 26-24 to conclude the day’s semi-finals.
