The Khorixas Constituency Councillor Sebastian !Gobs is concerned about the prevailing trend whereby newspapers arrive a day late in towns and surrounding areas, saying people are “news starved”.
“It has been like this for long. Our people receive outdated news. We need newspapers daily because they are published daily,” !Gobs said in an interview last week.
!Gobs also said people normally have to share a single newspaper that is passed from one reader to the other and if they are fortunate they get fresh newspapers from people who visited other towns.
“Some of us who are lucky to have computers read the news online otherwise we have to arrange with people going to other towns such as Otjiwarongo to bring us newspapers,” said the councillor.
In the past, people tried to venture into newspaper distribution so that the town could get the news while it was still news but that, he said, yielded no results as the people who attempted the move realised the process was cumbersome – and newspapers still arrived late.
“What I suggest is that there be one transporter to bring all the newspapers on time. It will help us a lot,” said !Gobs.
