The Judge President yesterday announced that he has assigned a judge to preside over the inquest of the late Frieda Ndatipo, who was shot dead allegedly by a member of the police during a scuffle at the Swapo Headquarters last year.
Judge President Petrus Damaseb said he designated Judge Christi Liebenberg to conduct the inquest. Judge Liebenberg has already instructed the Registrar of the High Court to enrol the matter for a pre-hearing conference to take place on May 28 at 09h00 at the Windhoek High Court.
Last week Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa indicated that she had declined to prosecute anyone in the matter after the Ombudsman, Advocate John Walters, handed over his report on the investigation into the incident.
After a public outcry, Justice Minister Albert Kawana requested the Judge President to hold an inquest into the death of Ndatipo, in life one of the so-called “struggle kids” demanding jobs from government.
