WINDHOEK-To broaden its scope in its involvement in children’s life its part the Children of Namibia (ChiNamibia), has embarked on new programmes.
One of the founders of ChiNamibia, Kapenangutjiua Vetira, says the new programme include a student internship and fundraising. It would be offering internships to students in arts and other related fields linked to what ChiNamibia is currently doing such as Administration, Marketing, Media, Web Designing, Arts, Photography, Teaching, Events Organising and Psychology.
ChiNamibia has also started a campaign of collecting all kinds of donations from the community for charity organisations and old age homes. “As part of giving back to the community, ChiNamibia is working closely with various charity organisations and old age homes all over Namibia,” says Vetira. She adds that by the end of this month they will start with the Kiddies Fund Day, a fundraising event that will be onward taking place every month to collect donations. “We will be collecting and handing over the donations to the most needy children and orphans,” says Vetira.
The event will be calling out for donors to donate second hand clothes, foods, shoes, toys, musical instruments and many other necessities. Vetira says the organisation is also building different offices in the regions to cater for all children’s around the country. “The aim is to give platform to the talented young people in the regions to showcase their talents and to be able to share their knowledge with other young people in their home towns,” says Vetira.
ChiNamibia was founded in 2013 by Vetira and Josephat Tjiho. The aim was to educate, empower and develop children and young people’s minds about arts and cultures, as well as to give them a platform to air their views. The organisation operated in Windhoek for the past two years and but has realised the a need of branching out to other regions and is in the process of doing this. “Arts education is one of the greatest needs in our society as it provides greater understanding of our cultural backgrounds. ChiNamibia hosted workshops in Windhoek, Otjiwarongo and Swakopmund and realized the need for Arts Education in Namibia as a whole,” says Vetira.
