WINDHOEK-The Auala Deanery Youth Group (ADYG) has urged youths to seriously act together and take sport serious.
Up to 387 youths from different parishes attendant the two-day Youth Conference at the Oshitutuma Parish Church in the Omusati region, which was aimed at encouraging youths to take sports serious and tackle issues that are currently affecting the youth. The conference was well attended but with no mishaps or fighting despite the lack of electricity the whole weekend. The youths were also treated to different activities such as a choir competition, motivational speeches and sport (soccer, netball and volleyball).
During the conference, the Leader of the ADYG, Ester Sakaria, urged all the Lutheran leaders to include sport in their churches’ activities as long as this does not interfere with church services. “Having sport as one of the activities in our churches will somehow keep our youth close together and many will be involved in churches activities,” says Sakaria. “I believe it is time for actions as I have given you a platform to initiate with. I started this and it works. I am very sure it can work elsewhere. Let’s be creative and implement new programmes in our churches,” Sakaria motivated the youths during the conference.
Sakaria pleaded with Lutheran pastors to assist youth in their activities. “It is a shame that some of our pastors are not interested in youths’ activities, that is why youths end up doing their activities on their own without anyone directing them,” she said.
