Home Crime and Courts Two drug suspects granted bail

WINDHOEK – Two men allegedly involved in the biggest drug bust of 2015 so far were granted bail when they appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The duo appeared in two different courts. Stephan Rapp was granted bail of N$10 000 by magistrate Justine Asino and the matter was postponed to May 19.

He is facing a charge of dealing in cannabis with a street value of N$33 000.

He was allegedly nabbed with a two-metre long marijuana plant early Sunday morning in Olympia.

As part of his bail conditions he has to surrender his travel documents to the investigating officer prior to paying bail and must not apply for new travelling documents before the case is finalised.

Rapp must also report every Monday between midnight and 10h00 at the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.

Magistrate Ingrid Unengu granted bail of N$3 000 to the second accused Lee Namundjebo.

Namundjebo faces a charge of having contravened section 2 (a) of the Abuse of Dependence Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act, Act 41 of 1971 – possession of dependence producing substance.

He was allegedly found in possession of the drug called “skank” in Hochland Park.

His legal rights were explained to him and he indicated he would hire a private lawyer.

The matter was remanded to June 17 for further investigation and legal representation.

Prosecutor Georgitte Losper informed the court that the State had no objection to the accused being granted bail.
Losper recommended bail of N$4 000, but Namundjebo objected saying this was high.

“The bail is a bit high. The police even took my rent money. I am asking the court to reduce the bail money to N$3 000,” he said.
Magistrate Unengu granted the request.

The two men were among three men nabbed by the police early Sunday morning. Police seized a marijuana plant, money and cocaine in a police operation in the early hours of Sunday, Inspector Slogan Matheus from the police public relations unit informed the media on Sunday.

Three men were arrested, two in separate houses in Olympia and one in Hochland Park.
