WINDHOEK – Livestock auctions have dwindled considerably in the presence of the current unilateral imposition of stringent animal health conditions by the South African authorities.
The authorities have since the end of April implemented stricter livestock export regulations to that country, depriving some 60 000 communal and emerging Namibian producers of their only form of income. While the Namibian livestock industry is holding its breath in anticipation of the final decisions by a joint committee between Namibia and South Africa after May 31, local auctioneers are still continuing with auctions in most parts of the country.
The auction calendar for this week is:
Today: Namboer’s cattle and small stock auction in Dordabis, Namibia Livestock auctioneers’ auction on farm Monica and Windhoek Livestock Auctioneers’ small stock auction in Rehoboth.
Tomorrow: Agra’s auctions in Otjiwarongo, Okahandja, Gobabis, and Karasburg. Namboer’s auction in Seeis, NLA’s auction in Mariental and Blaauwberg’s auction in Grootfontein. Great interest has also been expressed for the Himarwa and Motinga small stock auction tomorrow, hosted by Agra in Windhoek.
