Re-arrested

The Oshana police have re-arrested Immanuel Ndaoya, well-known as Cabana, who escaped from the Onandjokwe Hospital in the early hours of Sunday. He was nabbed in the afternoon of the same day at the Enkono village near the Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Airport.
Ndaoya was initially arrested on charges of housebreaking and theft at the Onandjokwe Hospital, where he was admitted for injuries sustained during a housebreaking incident at Omwandi on Saturday. He now faces an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.

 

Heart attack

The 41-year-old teacher who collapsed while fetching water at Friendly Private School in Rundu last Monday died from a heart attack. The Kavango East police say the post-mortem on Sindano Racheal Masela states the cause of death as “acute myocardial infarction”, which is “an underlying coronary artery disease with symptoms of chest pain or discomfort with or without dyspnea, nausea and/or diaphoresis”.

Lightning

Sara Nerumbu Ndjamba (20), was struck by lightning on Saturday evening at the Bunya Village, Kavango west region, and died instantly. Ndjamba was walking home from a water point in the company of her sister while carrying buckets of water on their heads when she was struck. Her remains were taken to the Bunya state mortuary for an autopsy to be conducted. 

 

Two girls died in separate lightning strike incidences in the Ohangwena region on Sunday. In the first incident, Kambosho Erastus (15) was struck by lightning while seeking shelter from a storm in a hut at the Onanghulo village. She was one of five people discovered in the hut around 14h00. Erastus’ body was burned beyond recognition, while the four other victims sustained injuries and were taken to the Eenhana district hospital.

 

Johanna Nambahu (12) was struck by lightning while hiding from the rain under a tree at a church in Onamwoolo village, also in the Ohangwena region, at around 14h50 with five other children.

The other injured children were transported to the same hospital for medical treatment.

Stabbing

An adult man succumbed to three stab wounds inflicted on him by an unknown attacker at Okahandja on Friday evening along 2nd Street, where he was staying. He was identified on Saturday as Amon Mutsitani Naseb, age unknown. Naseb was attacked with a knife on his way home at about 18h30. Three visible, deep stab wounds were seen; one on his right upper chest, behind the left ear, and on his right lower arm. No arrest has been made in connection with the matter so far.

 

Hafeni Mbwiti (30) was stabbed in the chest with an okapi knife by an 18-year-old male at Mix settlement in Windhoek on Sunday at around 10h00, when the two started fighting. The two were reportedly involved in an argument last week as well.

Shooting

Two male residents of Okahandja aged 26 and 19 were shot and wounded after an on-duty security guard opened fire on them during a fight at Okahandja’s Nau-Aib township on Saturday. The victims were transferred to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in critical condition. The 30-year-old guard was arrested at about 20h30 on the same day on two counts of attempted murder. It is alleged that a quarrel erupted between the victims and the guard at a bar, and resulted in a physical fight, which reportedly prompted the guard to shoot both in the abdomen with a revolver. The suspect was expected to make his first court appearance in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Photos of military vessel

A New Zealand national was arrested on Saturday for reportedly taking pictures of a military vessel without permission at the PN Sacharia Naval Base, Walvis Bay in the Erongo region. The man (47) entered the military base through the gate at about 18h00, and took pictures without permission. He was later released on warning.

 

Robbery

A man was allegedly robbed of properties valued at N$20 900 after a suspect entered the complainant’s residence at East Meersig, Walvis Bay on Saturday. The stolen properties include a laptop, a cellphone, a pair of pants, and N$600 in cash. No recovery or arrest has been made yet.

 

A man was allegedly robbed of items valued at N$21 000 after suspects held him at gunpoint at Khomasdal’s Nampost office in Windhoek on Saturday at about 23h40. The items which were taken include an iPhone 12 pro-max, N$5 000 in cash, a wristwatch and a ring. No recovery and arrests have been made yet.

 

A 30-year-old woman was on Friday allegedly robbed of properties valued at N$20 000 after she was held at gunpoint at the Hochlandpark residential area in Windhoek. It is alleged that two armed suspects – a female and male – broke into the victim’s residential premises at about 23h25, held her at gunpoint, and took off with an iPhone 11 and three perfume bottles, all valued at N$20 000. No recovery or arrests have been made yet.

 

In another incident, a complainant was on Friday allegedly robbed of a car engine and four tyres valued at N$45 000 by an unknown suspect at Goreangab Dam in Windhoek between 04h00 and 05h00. None of the items have been recovered.

Lifeless 

The lifeless body of William Titus, 51, was discovered near Jane Store in Rehoboth’s Block B residential area between 02h00 and 06h00 on Sunday. It is alleged that Titus died on the scene after he was assaulted with a wooden plank on the head during a heated argument. The 22-year-old suspect was arrested, and the plank recovered.

Road crashes

Four people lost their lives in two separate accidents on the B1 national road in the Otjozondjupa region on Friday. In one incident, three people died some 84 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo to Okahandja when the driver of a Toyota Legend 45 double cab collided head-on with a white Volkswagen Polo hatchback while overtaking a truck. The Polo driver, a South African national and another person died in the accident. Three other occupants in both vehicles sustained injuries, and were treated at a hospital in Okahandja.
In the other accident, Isack Ndjamba (14) succumbed to his injuries on the scene after an Iveco truck he was travelling in from the north with the driver collided on the side with a white Ford Ranger with five occupants, including the driver, some six kilometres south of Otavi at about 01h20 on Friday. Six occupants – the truck driver and the Ford Ranger driver – sustained slight to serious injuries, and received medical attention at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

Fire

An 18-year-old girl allegedly set fire to a house while inside after an argument with her boyfriend at Bethanie in the //Kharas region on Friday at around 08h42 when the man left the house. It is alleged that she locked herself inside, and set it on fire with the aid of a hot plate and papers. The girl did not sustain any injuries as bystanders rescued her, but the house and most of its contents valued at N$167 700 burned down.

 

A man allegedly set fire to the house where his girlfriend resides in Keetmanshoop. It is alleged that the suspect poured petrol onto the house and set it alight between 02h00 and 03h00 on Sunday. No one was harmed, as they all managed to escape. The value of the damage is estimated at N$200 000. The police are yet to arrest the 33-year-old suspect.

 

The mother and daughter who died in a shack fire in the DRC informal settlement in Swakopmund on Saturday at around 02h30 have been identified as Tania Nanus and one-year-old Viona Nanus. It is suspected that the mother might have dozed off while cooking.

Rape

A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her 68-year-old employer at Karasburg on Saturday between 09h00 and 10h00 at an accommodation facility. It is alleged that the suspect lured the woman into one of the guest rooms by telling her there was a water problem. When the woman entered the room, he locked the door, forcefully removed her clothes and allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. He allegedly gave her N$300 afterwards. Preliminary police investigations found that about two weeks ago, the same man allegedly also entered a toilet the woman was in, and touched her all over her body without her consent. 

 

Pit bull attack

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in an attack by two pit bulls at Rosh Pinah. The dog owner was walking his dogs in the field, and allowed the victim to hold the dogs’ leashes. But he then allegedly fell and the dogs bit him in the face, inflicting serious injuries. The injured boy was transported to the Lüderitz State Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition. The dogs were euthanised.
