Newly promoted side and the current log leaders of the Debmarine Premiership, Khomas Nampol football club, will be hoping to maintain their great form when they take on UNAM and Life Fighters over the weekend.
Nampol has yet to taste defeat in the league this season after recording three straight wins, placing themselves at the top of the standings with nine points. This weekend, they will face the acid test when they take on second-placed UNAM, who have six points after three games at SKW.
Speaking to this publication yesterday about their readiness and how they will approach today’s crucial match against UNAM, head coach of Nampol, Fortune Morne Eichab, said.
“We are going to approach this match like any other game we play or are going to play. For us, it’s not a crucial match; it’s another opportunity granted to us to play football. We know everyone is targeting our backs, but we are just here enjoying the moment,” he said.
He added that their aim is to survive relegation, and they just happen to be happy being on top of the food chain. Also sharing his sentiments about today’s match, UNAM head coach Ronnie Kanalelo said he knows what to expect from the high-flying Khomas Nampol team. However, he mentioned that his side is looking good and aims for maximum points. “We started off well, and we are looking forward to maintaining the great run. But coming to tomorrow’s (today) match, we know what to expect from Nampol. We expect them to come with aggression as usual, and we also know how to deal with that,” he added.
In terms of the squad, he said, “We have an injury-free team, and we expect all our top players
to be available. We trained well this weekend, so we go into this match with the mentality of collecting all three points, although we know it won’t be easy. But we are equally prepared,” he said.
In other encounters this weekend, on Saturday, Mighty Gunners, who are 13th on the log and have only a single point in the league so far after one match, will square off against Tigers, who are seventh on the log with six points. Young Brazilian, occupying 14th position with no points, will be hoping to register their first win when they face Life Fighters, who are 11th on the log with two points from two matches.
Coastal outfit Blue Waters, fourth in the standings with six points, will then square off against ninth-placed Orlando Pirates, who have three points from two matches played.
Meanwhile, Okahandja United, sixth on the log with six points, will welcome defending champions African Stars, who are placed third on the log with six points, while Gobabis-based outfit Young African, placed 15th on the standings, will welcome Rundu-based team Julinho Sporting, who are also 12th on the log standings.
FC Ongos will then square off against Okakarara Young Warriors. Meanwhile, in
Oshakati, Eshoke Chula Chula will be tested when they face Civics.
On Sunday, Young Brazilians will take on UNAM in another exciting fixture, while Blue Waters will host African Stars.
