WALVIS BAY – The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) last month donated 10 computers to the National Youth Council’s Oranjemund Youth Forum and the School Infrastructure Improvement Initiative, facilitated through the office of the Ohangwena governor.
On handing over the computers at Walvis Bay, NFCPT executive director Victor Pea emphasised that the donation opens the door to a world of knowledge, creativity, and endless opportunities for the fortunate Namibian youth who will benefit from it.
The donation valued at N$211 433 includes Microsoft software packages. A further five computers each will be donated to the two institutions during the next financial year.
Pea highlighted the importance of education as the foundation for a prosperous and sustainable future, with technology playing a critical role in this regard.
“In today’s rapidly evolving world, integrating technology into education has become a necessity rather than a luxury,” he said, adding that by providing these computers, NFCPT takes a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in communities and schools.
Pea underlined the manifold benefits of integrating technology into education, stating that computers empower students with invaluable skills, enabling them to explore a vast realm of information, collaborate with peers globally, and develop critical thinking abilities. With access to online resources, e-learning platforms, and educational applications, students gain digital literacy, an essential life skill in the 21st century.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya acknowledged the region’s limited access to ICT in rural areas, making these computers invaluable in bridging the gap for both learners and teachers.
“We are indeed very thankful to NFCPT for this generous donation,” he expressed.
Calista Schwartz-Gowases, the NYC director, also extended her appreciation for NFCPT’s kind gesture, recognising that such donations assist the NYC in addressing the challenges faced by Namibian youth.
“Therefore, we are grateful and want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to NFCPT for their contribution toward youth development and for assisting the Oranjemund Constituency Youth Forum,” she remarked.
