In an effort to strengthen their fan base, Otjiwarongo-based Namibia Premier Football League club, Life Fighters have appointed Moses Kangumba as the chairperson of their supporters’ club.

Terry Ujamba, the commercial director of Life Fighters, which is affectionately also known as Kahirona, confirmed to New Era that Kangumba’s appointment is effective 13 July 2023.

“This noble idea came into play as a community club. Our supporters needed a voice in the team’s affairs, which prompted them to have a supporters’ representative on the board,” Ujamba explained.

He also added that Kangumba’s appointment will contribute positively to the mandate of the supporters.

“He has 30 years’ experience in local football and supporters club administration, and Kahirona will benefit from his vast experience as well,” Ujamba added.

On the team’s preparations for the next season, the commercial director said training has started and the coaches and players are hard at work. “The boys are training hard; they showed hunger for the commencement of the league. We are trying hard to keep them in the camp with the little resources we have at our disposal,” he said.

Ujamba said the team will add two international players from Nigeria and Ghana before the season commences.

“This is with the purpose of adding depth to our team for the upcoming Premier League season,” he said.

Ujamba urged the corporate world to come on board and help the team where they can.

“This is a community team, one of the oldest in the Otjozondjupa region, thus it requires the involvement of everyone in the region for the development of the beautiful game of football and job creation efforts for the players as well,” the director said.

On his part, Kangumba said he is overwhelmed by his new role in the club.

“I have vast experience in running football from grassroots and have been part and parcel of this club’s successes in various aspects,” Kangumba alluded.

He said his main aim is to make sure the club’s supporters are issued with membership cards.

“Of course, we will create a database of our fan base, which will help us to develop the team together and generate revenue and give incentives or special treatment to supporters in terms of membership,” he said.

Kangumba said he wants Life Fighters club to have its own properties like busses and accommodation facilities, among others.

“This will also bring a sense of belonging instead of renting properties all the time. Our year plan has already started, and our prime aim is to win the premier league next season,” he explained.

Life Fighters football club was formed in 1964, and it is well-known for its purple uniform.
