An outdoor event dubbed Youth Summer Camp will commence this Friday for Windhoek youth to engage in various uplifting activities aimed at investing in their lives to secure a prosperous future.

The four-day camp is organised by Grand Harvest Ministries and will take place at the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Centre, situated some 20km outside of Windhoek.

The fourth edition of the camp takes place under the theme ‘To Arise to your God-given potential’.

Assistant youth leader in the ministry Diana Kauta, told Youth Corner the event targets young people between the ages of 14 and 25 from different geographical settings in the city, including the 7de Laan, Greenwell, Okuryangava settlements.

“Social elementary challenges such as drug abuse, gender-based violence, and human trafficking are some of the topical issues that will be addressed to reserve a beloved nation for the coming generation,” she said.

Kauta said the ministry has a strong view that young people – being emerging leaders of this country – should invest in their lives to secure a prosperous future for Namibia.

Testimonies from previous participants are good to pronounce and boast about, said Kauta, adding that those who benefited from the summer camp have said their lives were impacted positively.

“Some of those who participated were targets of SGBV. Others were rehabilitated and recovered from addictions to alcohol and drugs, amongst others. Today, they meaningfully contribute to their communities and societies,” she said proudly.

Kauta noted that they will only be able to accommodate 100 youngsters in the camp.

“We have vibrant young adults from different sectors and in specialist fields that will be addressing those topics from a rich angle of experiences,” she explained.

Activities include mural painting, football, volleyball and basketball, and obstacle courses for team building.

Kauta called on Namibian youth to grasp this opportunity to “walk with God” in their lives by registering to be part of the summer camp with N$650 that caters for accommodation, food and transport.  Registration ends Thursday and enquiries can be made on 0818804970 or 0817053933
